When you live on an island, it can be difficult to find services, especially if you want to be tested for Autism and/or ADHD. It’s even harder if you’re smart, if you’re a woman or nonbinary, or anyone who’s not a white boy who loves trains. You’ve probably been masking your Autistic traits for years, and getting by, but now you’re exhausted. Are you one of those people who has a different kind of brain, neurodivergent? It’s a great brain, don’t get me wrong, but you may be marching to the beat of a different drummer than the rest of the world. Isn’t it exhausting, masking, or pretending to be “normal,” when the rest of the world seems to coast through life so easily? You’d love to have some answers.
But what if you live on Kaua’I, Molokai, or Lāna’I, and can’t find the services you need? Oahu has psychiatrists, Honolulu County has great mental health services, and Maui has resources, too. But, do they have specialists in late-diagnosed, masking Autistic adults? And what if you don’t want to hop on a plane to get tested? Even if you live on an island with great mental health services, do they have experts who can identify Autism in adults who have been masking their whole lives? If they do, wonderful! But if not, online assessment may be the answer for you.

Just because you’ve chosen to live in paradise far from big city services doesn’t mean you can’t have a quality assessment for Autism or ADHD from your own lanai, without ever leaving your island. You deserve access to the answers you need.
