Counseling
Do you feel anxious? You can’t stop ruminating on things that have gone wrong in your past?
Do you worry so much about the future that you find yourself stuck, with no clear path forward?
Have you been masking and trying to put on an act for the neurotypical people in your life? Perhaps it’s been going on for so long that you wonder who you even are anymore. You may be feeling depressed by the sheer, relentless exhaustion of being neurodivergent in a neurotypical world.
It’s exhausting.
It’s exhausting for neurodivergent people. You work so much harder than neurotypicals just to exist in this world of social and sensory chaos.
It’s reasonable and smart to look for a counselor when you’re feeling anxious, stressed, out of balance, or depressed.
Perhaps you’ve had counselors in the past, but found that you had to educate them about autism or ADHD. They just didn’t get it. Are you looking for a counselor who truly understands and values neurodiversity?
Neurodiversity Affirming
Here at Adult Autism Assessment and Services, we are 100% a neurodiversity affirming practice. We know there’s nothing wrong with being autistic, or an ADHDer, or having any other kind of brain difference. You don’t have to have a cookie-cutter brain just like all the other brains. Instead, celebrate your uniqueness.
Celebrate Your Uniqueness
If you are looking for a counselor who already understands what you are going through, look no further. We will never judge or shame you for being your true authentic self. We’ll never try to get you to change who you are, or stop stimming, or mask more. You deserve to see a counselor you’re comfortable enough with that you can rock, or shake your hands, or look wherever you want instead of trying to look at their eyes.
Reflect and Reach
With your counselor, you can reflect on your experiences, your feelings, your history, and your dreams.
You can set goals that are important to you, not what someone else wants you to work on, and then reach toward your goals.
You have someone to go on this journey with you, someone who is on your side, in your corner.
Rise Above Depression
Depression can be debilitating. It can rob you of vitality and your enjoyment of everyday life. Depression is also very treatable, with many positive outcomes through therapy. With a counselor you can learn strategies to rise above your depression, to return to your past enjoyment of the things that had brought your life beauty and happiness. Although it may be difficult to imagine this change when you’re in the midst of a depression, your counselor can guide you through so you can rise above it. Reclaim your joy.
Calm Anxiety
When you’re anxious, it’s hard to get back to your calm center, the place where you feel most at home, most yourself. Anxiety can steal your satisfaction with what you have, bringing up fears and endless “what if” scenarios. Wouldn’t it be nice to talk back to your anxiety, to calm it down? Let your strong self take center stage while your anxiety steps back, with the help of a counselor who cares, who knows how to get around anxiety and allow your centered self to shine.
Is it time?
Is now the time for you to find the counselor you can trust and confide in? If so, contact [email protected], and tell her you want to meet one of our neurodiversity-affirming counselors. Let her take it from there. She’ll schedule you for a combination consultation/intake session. The first 15-20 minutes of the session are for consultation. You may ask questions and see if you’ll be a good fit to work together. If you decide that you don’t want to go forward with counseling, your session ends and you will not be charged. If you decide after 15 or 20 minutes that you do want to go forward, your first session begins immediately with no waiting to reschedule. You’ve already waited long enough, haven’t you?
